I'm Edem Kumodzi. I write code for a living and spend way too much time thinking about how to make software better.
This space is where I write about whatever's currently occupying my mind. Sometimes that's a deep technical problem I'm solving. Other times it's a new training program I'm testing, a piece of music I'm deconstructing, or a design principle I've discovered. Each topic gets its own focused exploration.
What I write About
Software Engineering: Building systems that scale, exploring new architectures, and finding elegant solutions to complex problems. I'm particularly fascinated by how different programming paradigms shape the way we think about problems.
Fitness: The science and practice of getting stronger. I track everything, test different approaches, and share what actually works.
Music: Understanding how music works, from theory to production. Technology has completely transformed how we create and experience sound, and I find that intersection endlessly interesting.
Design: Creating spaces that are both beautiful and functional. Minimalism isn't about having less for the sake of it, it's about everything having a purpose.
Fatherhood: Learning how to raise a daughter in a rapidly changing world. It's the hardest and most rewarding thing I've ever done.
Philosophy
On the surface, these interests might seem scattered. But they all share something: the search for optimal solutions within constraints. Writing efficient code, designing effective workouts, composing compelling music, creating functional spaces, raising a confident child - they're all puzzles that require both creativity and discipline to solve.
I write each essay to stand alone. You don't need to care about code to read about fitness, or know anything about music to appreciate thoughts on design. Start anywhere that interests you.
